Reliability & Availability (RAM) Modelling
Oracle Risk Consultants have performed several RAM models.
The normal process is to kick-off with a Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Assessment (FMECA) workshop, which is essentially a qualitative risk assessment, similar to a HAZID or What-if analysis. This forms the basis for the RAM model.
A Flow diagram is then produced showing series and parallel (redundant) paths.
Calculations are normally performed using Excel or other propriety software as agreed with the Client. ORC have access to industry reliability and availability data (eg. OREDA).
However, it should be appreciated that the quality of input reliability data available tends to be relatively sparse and hence the results from any RAM modelling can only be treated as indicative and not absolute - it is similar to QRA in this respect.
RAM modelling integrates with the facility Performance Standards mentioned above.
